Desktop Chrome & Edge · Manual installation
Four steps to get started.
Keep Instagram in the same browser profile.
Download the ZIP below and extract it to a folder you can keep. The folder you install must contain manifest.json.
In Chrome, enter chrome://extensions in the address bar. In Edge, use edge://extensions. Turn on Developer mode, select Load unpacked, then choose the extracted extension folder.
Sign in directly on Instagram in the same browser profile. Open the Story, Reel or post you are allowed to view and save. Let its photo or video load; play the video if needed.
Open GetMyReel Companion from your browser’s Extensions menu and choose Scan this tab. Review the available file, then choose Save file. For another Story or carousel item, open it on Instagram and scan again.
Keep the extracted folder. Your browser loads the extension from it. Pin GetMyReel Companion in the Extensions menu for easier access. After an update, replace the files, reload the extension and refresh Instagram.

Instagram decides what your account can see. Use the companion only for media you own or have permission to save.

Use the public toolOpen media you can already view in your own Instagram session. Check it locally and save an available file on your computer.
Set up the companionNo account unlocking.
No promise before the file is found.
No. Open that content on Instagram in a browser where your own account is already allowed to view it. The companion checks media available in that page. It does not unlock accounts, restore expired Stories or grant permission to content you cannot view.
Availability depends on how Instagram delivers that particular item. If a downloadable file cannot be identified, the companion tells you. Some items remain unavailable even when playback works. It checks the item you opened, not your entire feed or someone’s account archive.
The companion runs in your browser. You sign in on Instagram itself; there is no password or cookie upload form. This flow does not send your Instagram login, private media or download jobs to the GetMyReel.app server. Instagram and its media hosts still handle normal page and media requests.
Your browser saves it to its Downloads location, or asks you where to save it. Extension downloads are local to your device; they do not appear in the website’s server download history. The file keeps the available source format.
This package is for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It is installed manually from this page; it is not a Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons listing. The public link downloader still works in a mobile browser.
Keep the Story, Reel or post open in the active Instagram tab. Wait for the media to load, play the video, then scan again. Open the item itself instead of a profile grid. If Instagram does not provide an available file, the companion cannot save it.
